Day 2: Yonay Farms

Our final destination for the day was the Yonay farms, which is an communal olive farm with about 80 families who farm together and live in community. We were greeted by Ehud Yonay who is a descendant of faithful Polish Jews who emigrated from Poland back around 1920 to Israel before there was an Israeli state.

Ehud is a very interesting man who is an amazing story teller, and held us spellbound for over 2 hours telling us about his family, their history, the mentality and perspective of national Jews and their faith. You can read more here

Ehud, before he became an olive tree farmer, was the chief editor of California magazine, very well respected, living in LA. He also is credited with writing the article for the magazine about a not very well known group of Navy aviators called "Top Guns" which inspired the movie by the same name. You can check it out at http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Top_Gun

We later had a simple but amazingly tasty country meal, which we helped prepare. We were each given a lump of dough to make pita bread, which we topped with our own topping then we cooked it in oven heating the bread on both sides, which makes the bread form a pocket inside.

We sat down and enjoyed this amazing meal and the each other! Great time!

Afterward we set off to our resting place for the next couple of nights, Nazareth!. We are staying at the Golden Crown Hotel in Nazareth...where the Artplus hotel was a little on the small side, this hotel goes the other direction...the lobby is the size of a football field!!! More tomorrow...
